I got this in dash monitor that has 4 wires coming out the back; a red, yellow, black, and green one. I'm pretty sure it goes like...

red = 12v

yellow = accessory/ignition

black = ground

green = ?

Anyone know what the green one is for? It's a cheap Chinese TFT monitor and the instructions it came with are pretty bad and don't say anything about a green wire. My only guess is that it's a second ground? But I'm just guessing here. Any help is appreciated. Oh this is for a 00 Eclipse but I don't think that would matter. Here's a pic of the wiring...

I believe green is like blue or blue/white in america which is for remote turn on. I'm going off pure memory though from hooking up stand alone screens like that. You can always wire it up with what you know an DMM the green to see what signal it kicks out

I believe the green may be a parking brake lead. In dash monitors sold in the US must be able to be installed so that the screen is not able to viewed while the vehicle is in motion.

Hornshockey has a point too. If it were me though I'd just hook up the other wires you know, then use a multi meter an figure the gren out. if it sends outs a 12v+ when the unit its on its a turn on, if it does nothing its more than 98% a negative input. But yea I'm really sure about it being a turn on. most units like that I've installed were put in a double din dash an that wire I used to turn on the dvd/mp3 player so your could see what you were doing. But when in doubt go with what you know

Dude the Yellow wire is 12 volts. The red is accessory. Black is ground. Green is the parking brake wire. That is the universal color as the screen is not supposed to work unless the parking brake is applied. What you do is wire the ground and the parking sense wire together. That will give you video with out tapping into your brake system. If you dont believe me get a battery charger or a jump start pack and test it out. you will see that I am right on the money.

I'm not going to argue with anybody. I'm sure we are all right but. you can never go wrong with a meter. Universal color is "right" but its not always when you buy off brand from other countrys. Just respect everybody in here an use the meter. Everybody doesnt always use the same color code. Multimeter the Green!

every item you get for car audio is coming from an asian country. None of those products are produced in the US. Its not about disrespecting anyone its about the fact that I install a/v systems everyday for a living

Well you do it everyday right? You can honestly say that all wire color codes are the same? For products? Most come from asian but they follow the manufac.'s color code. Basic head unit wiring is mostly the same. high 90's% but not all. dont steer guy to thinking most means all. There are off brands in asian that follow "Bull doodiezer" code Metra, Best, Scosche etc. follow agreed on a standard code. But what brand is that monitor? Get my drift? This site/forum is to educate, you know professional second opinions. Teach him how to find it out for himself if he isnt sure. Best teacher in my opinion is a basic car alarm using no diagrams an just a Digital Multimeter in an old GM something like a Caprice 85-95. Teach him since you do it everyday. Dont tell him something that cost him more later. AVIC-N3 is Green while VM9311 is Pink. To end it from the "Kings of the stand alone screens" Pyle. http://www.pyleaudio.com/manuals/PLVIN70.pdf

Tell me what wire is for parking break. and to even correct my first comment (about the remote output) where is that? Show me!

You sure? Green is parking brake for most major brands. With that said post the brand and model and maybe someone will know. Otherwise try contacting the manufacturer or where you bought it from.
