I was just installing a python 1600xp alarm/remote start in a 98 suburban, i put all the wires together  including the tach.

after i was done i tested the alarm it would lock/unlock and all the features work but when i remote started it it would crank, start and shut off. it didnt need a bypass or anything. so if any body has any information that would help please let me know. Thanks!!

when remote starting, crank, start and shut off is EXACTLY what happens to a C/K truck that has Passlock and you fail to bypass it--all GM C/K trucks started using Passlock in model year 1998- so your burban needs to be bypassed- I use the Gmata II which is a "dial-in" resistive bypass - very easy to use on that truck- can easily get the wires at the BCM- right in front of your face when looking under the steering colum................

So your '98 is the only one ever made without it????  You sure you don't have the yellow, black, and RED / white wires-- going down the steering column to the BCM?  - bremember Passlock II is NOT Passkey-- there are no chips in the keys of Passlock II  the hall effect elements are in the iginition switch- not visible- and a standard hardware key can be used--- but the passlock II activates on tumbler turn...

As said in the above posts, your 1998 Suburban does have the passlock system. You should have a theft/security light in your cluster.
