I recently tried to install an Ungo MS2007 system on my 1999 Mercury Cougar. My problem is that after getting the alarm installed it always said that one of the doors was open. The alarm would arm but then it would let out 3 beeps saying that the a door is open, and then my pager would go off saying that the door was open. Has anyone else had this problem, or does anyone know how to fix it?

Another problem I had was with the remote start. After I got the wores hooked up I went to start it and it would act like it was going to start but it would never crank. Any ideas on this one? Any information is greatly appreciated!

What wire did you use to tap into the door trigger ? If the remote starter cycles through the lights and never atttempts to start, try checking that your starter wire from the RS unit is not on the wrong side of the starter disable circuit. The RS starter wire should be on the motorside of the relay, not the switch side.

I tapped into the two wires on the back of the fuse panel that were ground when the doors were open.  As for the remote start, I tapped into starter and ignition wires on the motor side of the harness that is directly below the key.  Is this what you are talking about?

The vehicle in question is equipped with ford's passive antitheft system that lockouts the starter & fuel injectors unless the proper transponder is present.
To check if this is your problem, disconnect any transponder bypasses that may be installed, insert your key into the ignition lock but leave it in the off position. Then try to remote start the car.

I was aware that it is equipped with the PATS system, and I tried to install the transponder bypass that I had and it didn't work. I also tried what you suggested about removing the bypass and trying to remote start the car with the key in the ignition and it didn't work. Have any other suggestions??

When you tried to remote start the vehicle with the key in the ignition, what position was the key in? You must only insert the key into the cylinder but do not turn it. Then try to remote start it, and if it still does not start then there is something wrong with your install. Make sure the key still starts the car though.
After you have confirmed that the car will start with the key, turn the key back to the position that you could remove the key from and leave it there. Then try to remote start the car. Tell us what exactly happens when you press the button: Does the Ignition and accessories power up but no cranking? what do the parking lights do? Does the transmitter confirm that the unit has received the signal? Make sure the hoodpin is not grounded and make sure that the brake wire is not seeing 12v+ (which means make sure that the brake is not pressed if you hooked it up right, and if you hooked it up wrong it may be seeing 12v+ all the time which wont allow the car to start)

Doesn't matter if the bypass was installed correctly or not at this point because it's not your problem. If the car doesn't even attempt to crank, then it's definitely not the PATS. If it was the PATS, then it would keep trying to crank the starter but it would never catch.

When I used the remote to start, the system chirped indicating it was attempting to remote start. The relays in the unit clicked, ignition turned on, dash lights all came on momentarily and went off, and then nothing, no cranking. I even probed the starter output on the unit and it never received any current. It seems to me that it is exhibiting the same characteristics as when I try to start the car with an un-programmed key, which does not crank at all. I unhooked the brake switch wire, and the alarm goes off fine when the hood pin is released, so I guess that would eliminate those chances.  This may be a possibility...when I was trying to "learn" the transponder bypass into the system, the directions that I received stated that only one key was necessary to learn a new one. This didn't work, and then when I tried to start the car w/ original key, it didn't work either. I remember the security light on the dash acting funny. After a few minutes it all went back to normal, and I didn't try it again. Would it be possible that I had accidentally gotten into the programming mode and that's why the remote start didn't work even with the factory key in the ignition??

Also, any other ideas about the door trigger?

Thanks a bunch.

Most ford vehicles will crank the starter even if the proper key head transponder is not present. But some PATS equipped ford vehicles such as the cougar have a starter interrupt relay. On such vehicles, if the proper transponder is not present, the starter will not crank.

PATS has an antiscan mode. If you try to start the car without the proper transponder a certain number of times, the pcm will prevent you from starting the car at all until you wait a few minutes.
