i cant get it to do anything until im like 5 feet away from it....do i need to get a new remote or battery for the remote??? or is there a certain place i should put the antenna...right now its up in the center of the windshield by the mirror...partially under the factory tint...does that matter?

First I would check the battery on the remote.
Second i would check the antenna location, try a different location.
About those parking lights. The alarm can be switched between (+) or (-) parking lights make sure its the correct polarity for your car.
