wow, no I had bumped the switch and turned it off.
it attempts to start now, when i hit the remote start all the dash lights light up and then I hear some noises at the engine and nothing happens. It does this a couple more times and then I get a remote start error with no indication of what the problem is.
truck starts and runs fine with the key.
not sure how to proceed with no error messages

Did you learn tach? Did you power all three red wires in the heavy gauge harness?

The tach is learned... start/immediately hold the valet button/led flashes and stays steady/release valet button/turn off vehicle.
The red and RED / black have constant 12v and the RED / white has 12v with the key switched to on.
The violet wire is on the harness side and the green is on the key side.
I've tried it a few times now. I hear the fuel pump prime, the lights flash on the instrument cluster and the gauges do their sweep. Then I hear a click from the relay. After that nothing. It does this three times total. Then I get the remote start error on the remote.

Meter the hood pin at the alarm terminal, I want to know if it's going to ground when the hood is shut. Also how many error flashes? That should tell you what the problem is.

just got it sorted out.
i had the 5901s RED / white wire hooked up wrong so it wasn't seeing constant 12v and also didn't have the ground when running for the xk01 hooked up to the 5901 remote start status wire.
I appreciate you guys taking the time to help me out.

Remote start still isn't working, I'm getting 8 clicks for the NSS. Currently it's grounded with the other grounds.

Do you have the switch connected to the 5901 and is it in the on position?

The only reason you should be getting 8 flashes during diagnostics is if the NSS isn't grounded or the switched isn't plugged and in the on position.

By the way, it was brought to my attention, on your abbreviation for circuit you use "CKT". There is not "K" in circuit. Should this possibly be CCT? - R. Robson

the switch not being in the on position was exactly the problem that caused the 8 flashes. I had it wired up and bumped it while soldering a couple wires
