I guess maybe I should be tied into the coil (pnk) wire for the ignition since it will be +12V whenever the key is on cranking or not.

ACC hot on ACC, off when cranking on when run.
IGN = off on ACC, hot on IGN, hot on crank hot on engine run.

Thanks Howie so any idea if I should be tapped into Pink or Orange? I'm thinking it should be the coil one since that would need to be hot for the car to start.

I just thought I'd post a follow up. Howie was correct the wire I was using was drooping to 0 when cranking. I switched the wire over to the coil wire and the starter kill now works.
