Hey everyone, I just purchased a 2003 jetta GLS. The stock system is a Monsoon with CD and Tape. I am looking to add a amp and some subs. Now I was told that I would need to get RCA converters and connect them to the speaker wires on the back of the head unit. Now will this distort the system at all?? Also when wiring the power wire for the amp, how the hect do I get the wire through the Firewall. I cannot find any holes. Please if someone can help me I would appriciate it. Thank you.

I am also into the jettas i have installed several system in the jetta 4   there is a rubber grommet uder the dash just above the steering column that you can push out then make a hole through it just the size u need for wiring and replace it    thats the easiest way as far as the firewall goes. . . . as for adding subs I am not positive bc most of my installs involve changin the head unit I believe the gr8marauder is correct thatu need a convertor.. . . hope it helps

you just need a line out converter. they are easy to install, tap into the rear speaker wires RIGHT AT THE SPEAKER!  if you tap at the headunit, it wont work bc those leads go to a factory amp.  as far as the firewall, if you cant find a rubber grommet to poke thru, it looks like u may have to drill a hole.  just be very careful, i hate drilling holes, but sometime you have to.  you can buy a plastic grommet to go in the hole and run the wire thru it so u dont have to worry bout the power wire being shorted to ground
