OK everyone, i recently bought an AutoCommand remote starter. I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to installing, and i'm trying to figure out EVERYTHING before i even attempt to start taking my truck apart. The one and only thing i'm hung up on is finding a grommet in the firewall to run the necessary wires through. I'd really really like to AVOID drilling, so if anyone knows where a grommet is located that i can use, PLEASE speak up!
I didn't do it. *nodnod*

i know on my friends 98 blazer...there was one located on the passenger side area. if my memory serves correctly..it's 'bout half way towards the middle of the vehicle. I might be wrong though, but it's in that general area. Even he didn't believe me and he works for best buy LOL.

Eer.. i checked and i can't find any grommets on that side of the truck.. there seems to be nothing but heater/AC components in that area. ’99 blazer, remote start install -- posted image.

BTW, if there's any way i can run these wires through the fender and in through the door some way or something like that, *ANY* suggestions as to how i might get these three wires (tach, hood switch, power wire) ran would be greatly appreciated!

alot of times if you go inside the cab, under the driverside dash, pull the carpet or firewall padding away from the firewall and you will some times see a black plug you can push out. Otherwise you may just have to drill a hole. Drilling the hole isnt that bad just drill a good hole and put your own grommet in it so the wires to rub against the bare metal.

I agree with Javelin3o4, once you drill a couple hundred holes in firewalls you become immune.  But seriously you do not want to run any wires through door jams or fenders.  They are just fire hazards.

Find any rubber firewall gromet that has wires going through it and poke a small hole with a pick through it. Now tape the wire(s) that you want to the end of a long, but thin screwdriver and poke the wires through this hole.

usually on those trucks i pull apart the pass. side kick panel and make a 1/4" hole right about in the middle for alarns, remote starts, and amp installs.  its pretty easy and most grommets will snap in there.  plus if you are running amp wires its a straight shot to the battery.

I go thru the hood release grommet on that vehicle for tach. From the inside, remove the padding near where the steering assembly is on the firewall. You can fit tach and hood pin thru there, but power wire for an amp probably isn't going to happen. Absolutely do NOT run your tach wire thru the door jam. Any idea what happens if a tach wire grounds out? You don't want to know. Its tricky to find a good place to drill on that vehicle.
