I am currently working on a 99 S-10 Blazer that has the DEI 550 ESP Alarm/Remote Start system installed on it with a 555L to overide the Passlock II on this vehicle. This alarm appears to have been installed when the vehicle was new or near new due to the 5/99 build date on the alarm. The problem is the current owner recently purchased the vehicle and was only aware of a keyless entry fob on the key chain that had a dead battery. He didn't know it was an aftermarket add on remote start/alarm. He put a new battery in the remote and it lit the LED like the remote functioned but there was no response from the vehicle. Any way he got into a fender bender and I had to put a front clip on the vehicle. When the owner put the battery back in the blazer it energized the fuel pump and the vehicle started. This freaked him out because the keys were in his pocket so he unhooked the battery and hooked it back up. This time it seemed fine, he backed the truck out of his gararge and let it run for 30-60 minutes(not real sure)and then it shut off on its own. This is where he calls me. After pushing it back into the garage he unhooked the battery once more and tried hooking it back up now the siren sounds as soon as power is applied and the remote doesn't get any response. The alarm LED in the console never lights up. I have checked all the fuses and connections to the alarm that I could find but, I am pretty lost on what the problem could be. I printed off the owners and installation manual for this unit but still haven't figured any thing out. What could the problem be and/or where should I start. The owner would like to make this all work but if we can't I would also like advice on removal of this unit. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks in advance!!!

have you found the valet momentary push button in the car? if you find it turn the ignition on and then off and within 15 seconds press the button one time and the led should come on and stay on this will mean you are in valet mode, and will atleast tell you that the led is working. we know the unit is powerd up because it started when the battery was hooked up , this happens sometimes with dei remote starts. if you have the owners manual try and program the remote, what does the remote look like that you have? is it a blue 4 button remote? let me know, see ya

Velocity, I have not attempted to learn the remote code. What is the procedure?
Zargon, I have found the valet push button and I will try your suggestion tomorrow. The remote is a 4 button, but I'm not sure of the color (either black or dark blue I think).
Thanks once again,
Jason
