Yes I beleive it would start if:

1. the hood pin wasn't installed.

2. if hood pin was installed and the hood wasn't open during the oil change.

3. damage probably would't occur if the engine was shut off right away..........scary for those underneath..........

the hood should be up at this point, so the hoodpin switch would be grounded to prevent a start up.  But if you did have the hood closed, it would be possible to start.  The damge would likely be pretty minor, but still possible.  Solution of course is to turn switch off under dash(if so equiped)or make sure hood is up.

It is also best that YOU the Customer,  make ANY ONE working on or around your Vehicle,  AWARE that you have a Remote Start & the Remote is with the Vehicle..........

most also come with a remote start disable switch which you should always use and turn off before giving the car for service. Getting a sticker for the engine bay advising anyone working on the car that a remote starter is installed is always a good idea.

pinswitches are garbage!

they rust up and stay down, or the head breaks off and it don't start , then they call the installer.

at first i would install them.....every customer i installed them on , called me back maybe a year later, what a freaking pain that was.

now!.....i don't put them, I tell the customer to put the system in VALET mode

Testing is the key

The only problem with valet mode, at least with dei system anyway, is that valet mode does not disable the remote start.  Unless that is you're talking about that switch your supposed to put on the neutral saftey wire.  Me either mercury or magnetic switch every car every time.

That is also why DEI alarms come with a toggle switch to put inline with the nuetral safety wire, atleast they used to. It will disable the remote start by flipping the toggle.

heres another solution I have found that works as well when having someone work on a vehicle equiped with remote start, try removing the transmitter from the keychain and just giving the mechanic the KEY to the vehicle.  If they have no option to remote start the vehicle, then theres no worry about it accidently going off.  Just my thought.
