Ambient Interior led lighting

I am looking to add 2 LED lights that will flood the center console area of my 2000 Mustang GT with a dim but noticable light. If anyone is familer with BMW's or the Newer VW's you will probably know what I am talking about. 1. How can I control the amount of light which comes out of these LED's (can I use a dimmer?) 2. Do I have to use any special LED's Also once I hook them up as my Ambient Interior lighting. is there a way for me to also let them act as Blinking lights as part of my alarm? Or is this going to pose as too much of a hassel? If anyone is unsure of what I am looking to do. Here is a picture of the overhead console that is in a VW passat or what ever. The 2 little dots are the the lights im refering to. Thanks in advance Nick
