I just replaced my rockford 325.1 with a Alpine MRX-M100 (Brand new manufactured less than a month ago)

the amp is powering 2 older 12" Rockford punch P2's ( 500 max 250 RMS) 4 ohms each wired to 2 ohms

The M100 is putting out 1074w RMS @ 2 Ohms  537w @ 4 Ohms

The guy at the shop I bought the amp said i would be fine keeping my wiring to 2 Ohms and could turn my gains down and get a cleaner sound as i wouldnt be maxing out the amp

Thats abought the jist of what i understand now comes the complex part i have the amps gain set to around half way ( a bit under the .5V setting )  and the bass boost on the amp set to 3 db  and the subsonic filter set to 20

my head unit a older clarion double din if i set the volume at 24 (out of 33) it sounds great but sometimes a harder hitting song will come on and while it still sounds great after abought 10 seconds my amp becomes unresponsive and even turning the car off and on will not fix it i have to remove the inline fuse for a second and once i reconect it the amp is back up and working again this seems to happen only on extra hard hitting songs

Could this be a ground issue? I had the 4 guage wireing pro installed but he conected to a bad ground point in my vehicle and i had to scrape some paint to get the amp to turn on period could it be i need to remove more paint

could it be my head unit is not sending adequate voltage 100% of the time and my amp is going into protect due to low voltage? Would a capacitor solve this?

My car is a 2008 hyundai tiberon with stock battery and alternator

Ive tried to include as much info as possible but if i left anything out let me know i will answer asap

Thank you in advance for your time

Everything is a learning experience

keeping your amp at 2 ohms instead of 4 will make it work harder almost all of the time especially if your ground is not good. you need to get rid of all of the paint and primer on the ground point, i like to use a wire brush or a drill with a sanding head or sand paper. if the spot is not shinny then you are not down to bare metal.

not to mention that you are probably overpowering your subs by keeping them at 2 ohms which will make them get hotter faster especially on hard hitting songs with longer bass lines. if im not mistaken, hot voice coils will present an even lower ohm load to your amp which is probably why it takes a while for your amp to come back on because the coils stay hot for a while and as soon as you try to reset your amp and turn your car back on it jumps straight to overload protection.

First you need to set your gain properly.  Check the "how to" in the Car Audio Hot Topics forum.

Ok Ive had quite a bit of experience with the alpine v-power amps. first off im almost sure .5 volts is way too high a gain setting i have a pioneer head unit thats running at 4volts so i had to turn the gain all the way down. Also grounding was a big issue with this amp i originally had it installed by (Audio express) big mistake it seems all they want you to do is blow your equipment so you can purchase there overpriced crap. either way thats another issue but i had to go over the ground several times because it wasnt completely touching bare metal. this would usually cause the amp to heat up really quick and start to turn itself down. like they said in an earlier post make sure you get in there good with some sandpaper and make sure that metal shines. Another thing is these alpine amps dont have fans on them so your gonna want to make sure its very well ventilated. if its enclosed in the trunk forget about it this thing will heat up very quickly. I live in elpaso's Dry desert heat which does not agree with this amp at all. also make sure your ground wire is not smaller than your power wire and yes your gonna need at least 4 gauge with this one. also i have this hooked up to a ford focus 08 with stock alt and battery and it slams oh and also a capcitor will not help ur voltage from the head to the amp that only stiffens the voltage from the battery to the amp. I would also invest in the big 3 upgrade it made so much of a difference in my system and might help with some of the issues you are having. Hope this helps. good luck.

just as a follow up these amps have circuitry and overload protection so you said it was becoming unresponsive im almost certain that its getting way 2 hot and turning itself down to almost an inaudible level as before must be supremely well ventilated.

sounds kinda like a low voltage/overheating type of problem
swisha hit the nail on the head with these amps, i have a few alpines, i bought them purely on name recognition, (never again lol),
1 of the amps i have rolls back the output every 15 to 20 minutes until it cools down on 2/3 volume @ 2 ohms
there is no intergrated fan, which is a failure on the manufactures end, cause thing runs extremely hot.
so with these new alpines id recommend running them at 4 ohms only just because of their weaknesses, i know its only 537 rms, but you will probably lose all the cut out signal your getting now an will be able to enjoy your music without starting/ restarting car, pulling fuses, an stuff to reset amp
1000 watts of lp, now need sum hp an mids
