a whole new electrical system?  no, i believe whoever told you that has no idea what they are talking about! lol    you may want to make sure you have a good battery, and a better alternator would help too.  but thats it.  if you got a factory head unit or aftermarket it doesnt matter.  you can add an amp and subs to your vehicle.

A good battery and a cap are a good start. Here's some more upgrades.

  • Make sure you have the proper size power wire and have them terminated solidly.
  • Have the right fuse holder at the battery, if your using more than 60 amps of current , upgrade to a maxi fuse or a circut breaker.
  • Make sure you upgrade the grouding from the battery to the vehicle itself, that gets overlooked alot.
  • If your stock alternaor is 90 amps, you probably have A/C. If your putting in some serious power, you might want to consider upgrading to a 120 amp alternator. Check around to see if buying new one is cheaper or having the one you have now rewound by an alternator shop.

Good luck

You if you amp is going to push that much power it will be demanding on you cars electrical system.  Your battery is good for the job but you will need to look into getting another alternator.

A cap won't help much becuase it depends on your alternator for current.  As tuneman said you will also want to upgrade your ground from the battery to you vehicle.

That amp can draw as much as 187.5 amps.  I think a 300 amp alt would work fine. If you do a search of this site bberman1 has listed a few times places that have good high output alts. I have also heard that you can find them on eBay. I have seen prices that range from $230 up to $540. It will really depend on what you find. Try to find one that has good output at idle. Some will not put out very much until they are reved up. Good Luck.

The A2300hct will draw about 187 amps at max volume, now assuming you don’t have any other aftermarket accessories (amps, lights, winch, etc.) you will need approximately 277 amps to supply the correct amount of current to your car and amp. Now your not going to find a bolt on high output alternator that will put out that amount of current. I would suggest either you get the largest alternator you can find and work with that, or find a more efficient amp. The A2300hct is a high current amp. To push subs I would suggest you use a Class D amplifier. They are more efficient and a better choice. If you tell us what subs you plan on using then maybe we can suggest a Class D amp. As far as upgrading your electrical system if you get a high output alternator you will need to upgrade your battery and ground cables. But other then that their is not much to do.

Here is that list, also when looking for alternators don’t go by the cold output, you should always look at the hot operating output it will give you a more accurate power ratting of the alternator.
