Hello all,

I am looking for information on getting the power door locks connected in my 2000 Dodge Ram. I have everything else connected at this point except for the locks.

According to Alpine Dealer, my SEC-8063 does not need relays to accomplish this.. though I am beginning to suspect otherwise. I used the wealth of information found here and tried connecting the ORANGE / Purple (DL) and the Pink/Purple (DU) to the WHITE/ Brown (DL) and WHITE/ Green (DU) respectively. I get nothing... dead.. like I hooked to completely wrong wires.

Do I need relays to accomplish this ? Does anyone have a diagram or explanation that can help me past this hurdle ? I think my last alarm install was 8 years ago.. so I am pretty rusty.

Also to clarify, I do not have an existing factory alarm or keyless entry.

Here is link to Alpines install guide for this alarm.

Any help would be great !

Thanks in advance,

Glenshadow

You will need a reverse polaity for unlock and a positive polarity for the lock. That means that you will need to reverse the polarity on the Alpine's ( - ) output lock wire.

Thanks Jeff,

Just a point of clarification.... You say I need to reverse the polarity on the Alpines (-) output lock wire... (WHITE/ brown per the schematic)

Does this mean that I should be using a set of relays and wiring it as per the 5 Wire Alternating 12 Volts Positive Door Locks diagram on this site ?

I guess if I had a schematic I could pull it off.. but the old brain just isn't kicking in here....

Is this the same as what you had responded to in Ziplok's post under Dodge Ram Power Locks ?

I feel silly that I am stumped on this, knowing that Electronics Engineering was my degree in college....but that was 10 years ago and I don't use it anymore !

hahaha....

If you know of a link to a schematic, point me there and I can figure it out.. Thanks again....

Hey Glenshadow, it seems that age creeps up to all of us sometime and hits us in the head 2000 Ram Power Door Locks -- posted image..... that's my excuse for memory loss 2000 Ram Power Door Locks -- posted image.. Anyway, the Dodge RAM uses two systems for there keyless entry/lock system as you noticed. The diagram located here: https://www.the12volt.com/doorlocks/page3.asp#5w is correct. Just wire one relay to the UNLOCK wire of the Dodge and for the LOCK wire, you will need to reverse the polarity of the Alpine lock output because it's only a (-) output and the Dodge requires a (+) input to lock the doors.

Hello Jeff,

Thanks for all the info.. I am almost there... finally got a chance to work with it today...

What way would you say is the easiest way to reverse the polarity on the Lock ? I am thinking probably too broad... but thinking I have to tie something HI (+12V).

Am I going to need to jump through hoops to come up with something that reverses the polarity on this ?

Or do i just wire the Alpine (-) lead to (+) ? Thinking this is an output .. so don't know that I wanna do that....

Or am I just thinking too much ?

Actually.. let me clarify this... I have the following revision of the schematic...

http://www.glenshadow.net/relay.jpg

Not working at this point. I didn't wire up Lock so far because I am unsure how to rev polarity...

I disarm and get no unlock. Pulse is set at 900m sec. Do I actually need to go between the Motor and Switch physically ?

I popped the door wire boot and spliced there. I did not actually go run wires into doors and then in between motor and switch.

I am irked to the point that  I would pay my local shop the $50 to do wiring.. but they are NEVER available..... pathetic....

What am I not doing correctly here ?

Thanks again for your time and patience !

Here is an updated picture of what your relays should look like for this system:

Try this out and post your results.

I will go give this a whirl..... maybe my relays bit the dust.... I have to check them out....

Now that I have a clear mind first thing in the morning....

hehehe.....

I will let you know the outcome.

Ok Jeff... here is what I got....

Got them hooked up.. lock only.. I didn't wanna cut unlock wire (Pink/Purple) again since I did once already.. just in case I am in wrong place.

I am in drivers side kick area and have the leads spliced in on female side of white connector (side from inside vehicle).

I arm the alarm.. I hear the Lock relay work as it should... but nothing happens. I checked with meter and it is only pulsing like 2.79 volts max.. (no peak hold on this meter)

I have this wired to constant 12 volts and verified it is in fact ~12.79 volts.

Hmmmmm.....  do I maybe have to go elsewhere to tap into these wires ? Diagram dipicts Motor Side and Switch side.... I would think that means a headache going into the door and splicing there.

I will try another relay to to make sure.. also I will verify that pulse from Alpine is 900Msec

Any ideas ?

Thanks again.

You will need to go into the door between the swictch and the motor... doohh !! 2000 Ram Power Door Locks -- posted image. Sorry, but it has to be inline between the two for this type of system.

OK... I got the following hooked up now:

http://www.glenshadow.net/ram/Dodge_Door_Lock_relays.jpg

This works for lock. I can't get unlock to do anything though....Half way there !

And I have a kick ass valet switch to boot.....

http://www.glenshadow.net/ram/valet-1.jpg

Since I am a non smoker... hehehehehe

I know I need a +12 Vdc pulse on the Pink Violet to unlock it.. as that is what I measure across the terminals when I use the switch. So is this where I am going to need to REV Polarity on the WHITE/ Green ?
