Hey guys,

I'm having a problem starting my 2003 sunfire with my compustart remote. The problem started when my battery died after leaving the lights on. I installed the 2 way alarm starter combo myself but I'm stumped as to why it's not starting properly. This is what happens when I hit the start button on the remote: Brain recieves signal, turns ignition on cranks....as soon as the car starts it dies. So I figure maybe the bybass module messed, so I remove it and try and restart it.....sure enough it does the same thing. Before I jumped to conclusions I put the key in the ignition and tried remote starting it....but it did the same thing. Now I'm confused if it was a faulty bypass then the car should remote start with key in....right? To add to the confusion since my car is standard when I'm turning off the car (it goes in reservation mode) the car remains on untill all doors are shut then proceeds to shut off, again since the bypass is now out how is that possible shouldn't the car shut down and show the security light it like it does when I try and remote start.

PS: I don't think it's the tach because the car flashs  the security light when attempting to start.

ANY HELP WOULD BE GRATLY APPREIATED.

Thanks for the reply

no the thing is when the car attempts the start and fails the security light starts flashing and I have to wait up to 30mins to start again, thats why I figured it wasn't the tach, I mean I've had the remote on the car for a long while now, and even when the battery did die before it would still start up with the remote. I pretty sure it has something to do with the bypass. The only thing is when attempting to start the car with the remote with the key in isn't it suppose to start?

Thanks agains

Were you able to sucessfully start the car with the key? If not, get the car to start with the keys first before attempting to remote start your car. That way you can isolate the problem wheather it is related to the bypass module.
Try reprograming the bypass module. Maybe the bypass just needs to be reprogram from reading your post.

I'm able to start the car with the key, and i've tried placing the key in and remote starting but that fails. I've also reprogrammed the bypass which seems to be in sync with the resistance values. I'm missing something but I don't know what. I just don't get why it won't remote start with key in. Anyone have any other ideas.

Thanks again

Passlock is not like a transponder... it only generates an R code during crank, so leaving a key in the ignition will do nothing....sounds like you've got a Passlock issue... what bypass module did you use?

Def sounds like a passlock issue... if the 'reserve mode' on that works like the compustar models, it should be running when you pull the key out of the ignition.. the module or resistors dont have to be correct after it starts, only during crank.. kinda like a transponder system.. you can hold the key up to the cyl and it will start, then you can remove it after and it will run fine...

Edit.. did you try doing the bypass w/out a module?

you're wrong proinstall...Passlock is not like a transponder system and holding the key up to the ignition cylinder will not allow it to start...

I'm using the PL2003 bypass unit, so if ur right kgerry about not being able to remote start even with key in, how abouts would I go to verify the problem is infact the bypass.
Thanks for responses guys

relearn the PL2003
turn the potentiomitor clockwise until the LED turns on, then back until it just turns off
