05 is electronic injection that started on the 3rd gen in 2004.5 models.  as for the tach location it is in the right place and right wire i just believe the setting are incorect.  i will have to check the model but it is only about 1 year old.  it takes a 3pin connector on the programer.

its injected by a piezeoelectric injector, but it is direct mechanical injection on all 5.9 and 6.7l cummins diesel motors.   there is no physical injector wiring.

Do you have the installation or operators manual for the unit? I have never installed a viper, but most of these starters are programmable without a programmer. If you have the manuals or the model number we shoul be able to find some further quidance on the programming options for your unit.

...unless programming was locked out by the original installer via the bitwriter....

when you attempt to enter programming the siren will let out one long tone instead of chirping to indicate programming level

you can go on viper's web site and find a dealer near you.  Ask them to program your viper unit with their bit writer and to program tach to the diesel tach wire located on driver side of motor at the PCM.  You can always use a 454T tach generator worst case to resolve the problem.
