i just installed a remote starter on a 2003 durango, and it will remote start and run for about 5 seconds then shut off, it will do this three times then its done. It will start normal with the key. The key is a walmart key, just metal, so i don't think there is an immobilizer in this vehicle? any ideas whats wrong? thank you

What color is the ignition key?.. If it's grey then you has a security system and need to bypass it...

it doesnt make any sense that with the tach wire disconnected it would not fire the engine, usually no tach wire connected would make it grind the starter....what kind of unit did you put in?

Is there a RED LED in the dash and when you remote start the vehicle does it flash?

with the tach wire disconnected when you remote start the vehicle just cranks, starts normally with the key though, with it connected the vehicle will start and run for about 5 seconds and then shut off. I did not set up any door locks on this vehicle, customer had the factory remote for it and just wanted a remote to remote start the vehicle. also i did not hook up the factory alarm disarm wire, did not think this was necessary ... and as for your question velocity, i do not remember seeing a light on or flashing in the instrument cluster.... does this vehicle have an immobilizer? again it is NOT the gray key

Double check your tach signal with a digital multimeter. MAKE SURE it rises and falls with the rpms. If it is a constant AC voltage with the vehicle running no matter the rpm's it will stall on remote start.

An '03 with no transponder, eh? Must be a stripper. I haven't seen a late model Durango WITHOUT a transponder yet.

ok i will check the tach signal, although i do not think that that is the problem i would think that if it was the tach signal that was the problem it would react the same with it disconnected, but it wont even fire when disconnected but when connected it will run for exactly 5 seconds everytime. I still have this vehicle and it is still not fixed luckily it is a friends vehicle but i need to get it fixed REALLY SOON, any other ideas? anyone think that it is because of the factory alarm disarm wire that is not hooked up?
