91 Dodge Caravan AWD electrical Problems

Hello.  I have a 1991 Dodge Caravan AWD.  The other day I had the following problem(s) occur.  The first symptom was the power door locks did not work. I then found out that  I had no headlights ( switch was illuminated, dash was illuminated and all front and rear parking lights were illuminated), No brake lights and horn.  All Fuses are good.  Checked voltage at headlight connections and no voltage was evident.  The only problems I have previously have had with the van was with the drivers door lock was sticking.  Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.  

Check the +'ve wire off the battery. It should split into 2 or 3 wires (depending on options). 1 or 2 of these should have an inline fuse. Check the fuses. The relays under the hood could also be faulty. It has been a while since I've built any 91's so I am going by memory here. Check the relays to see if they are working. Unplug them one at a time and use two wires and a meter to test each relay. I don't think fuses were under the hood yet in 1991, but check around just to make sure. The under hood fuse box is a black rectanular box. If you have one check the fuses. There also may be a relay or two in the fuse box under the dash, they should be tested too. The accessories you mention are all devices that work with the key off, so they should all have a common power source at some point, that is why I suspect a relay somewhere. I will ask some of the older repairmen at work what they think and get back to you tomorrow.

have you done any work around the fuse box on the left kick panel???   look on the bottom of your fuse box. there should be some relays. check to see if they are pushed in all the way. i had a problem close to yours and the relays were not in all the way. good luck, david

Just got off the phone with a repairman who just retired. He said it sounds like a relay. Check the underhood relays and the fusebox relay.
