When the car is in park, the neutral saftey switch reads ground.

When the car is in gear should the neutral safety switch register 12 volts?

Reverse polarity is not common on a neutral safety switch. What kind of car?

I was reading the manual and it said that the safety switch would would negative ground when in park or neutral.

I was just curious to know before I started if it would read positive when in gear.

The car is a 1995 Suburban.

Just try to start the car in gear, if it doesnt start then dont worry about it. If it does start in gear then worry. Also make sure that you cant take the key out unless the car is in park.
