You are going to get lots of different answers here, and to be honest in most cases you can get a very expensive alarm but if not properly installed it's worthless. My opinion is something from compustar they are the best for range and they have some pretty cool features. I would say the pro2w9000fmas. But you may also want to look into some sort of gps tracking maybe also from compustar it's called computrack

I personally don't really like dei products I'm more of a fan of compustar or autostart. I've had some problems with dei mostly with range

DEI is great if you can't get any Compustar. I just upgraded to the 2WSSAS from the 5900 and I love it. The Viper is complete junk when compared to the Compustar. I would get horrible range and have to swap out a new battery every week.
The shops telling you to do the Viper didn't carry Compustar I take it? Where are you located?

You should be fine with either DEI or Compustar. I prefer DEI because that is what I sell and I can tell you that I have very few problems with them. The most important thing in your alarm is going to be your installer.

Do you guys in Canada get the ones where the brain sense the remote approaching the car and unlocks it for you? I wish they would add that to the US models.
