viper 5701, 2005 bmw x3, door locks

I recently had a viper 5701 security and remote start installed in a 2005 bmw x3 3.0i The installer had alot of trouble getting the remote start to work but eventually got....something. They tell me this is the only way the system can work because they have access to only 1 wire for the door locks. Press lock on keypad - system arms, doors lock or unlock (toggle) Press unlock on keypad - system disarms, doors lock or unlock (toggle) Press remote start - car starts and doors unlock and stay unlocked - dont think Ive tried remote starting with the doors already unlocked Basically the way the system works now I really have no idea if the doors are locked or unlocked. Is there really no way to have a discrete input to lock/unlock the doors?

Cable run going into car from driver's door;  WHITE/ black = lock neg and hold to close windows etc,  blue/red = unlock neg pulse. This is for the E46 3 Series but should apply to the X3.

hmm, the installer I took it to has just apparently given up and wont even investigate other wiring options. Guess I need to make then remove it and refund or take it to another installer. Any suggestion for a installer in the St. Louis Missouri USA area that can do this correctly?

He should be able to hook up the locks to lock when it is started. He should use the neg start wire isolated with diodes to re lock the doors during crank.
