i bought a 4 channel jensen 840 watt amp as well and i tried tuning it but i dont like the bass it puts out.is this amp too weak for my subs? would a 1000 watt be better for my subs or would a 1000 watt amp blow my speakers?? any help would be appreciated. i am thinking of selling or trading my amp for a stronger one. what brand is affordable but good quality. thanks

First off, you have to define "affordable" for us. I bought the Alpine PDX1.1000 and it was possibly FAR more than you want to spend, yet I can personally still define it as "affordable"... EVERYBODY'S definition will be different. Secondly, what do you want to DO with this system, meaning what kind of music do you listen to?
ANY amp would work for those woofers, but, as you have discovered, you feel you need a bit more power. This leads me to wonder what kind of enclosure do you have, because THAT amp will probably be just about enough, in two-channel mode, to drive two of those woofers. Neither of those products are of fantastic quality, and they are both... well, shall we say "optimistic", at best. Anything more, and I feel you will run the risk of blowing them.
It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

i have the mtx box it came with. for the 2 12's.
its all sealed and has some thing on the side for the air to come out.its not a plexi glass box its just wood. my friend has 2 12" kicker cvr's with a 1000 watt xplod amp and it sounds alot louder and the bass is nice and deep and clear. i dont know if 1000 wats would blow mine. should i just try 900 watts? are mono amps better?

thats a better link. some ppl on the comments said they have a 1200 watt amp on theirs and some have 1000 watt amps.

Again, what is your definition of "affordable"?

Well if you want to stay with MTX and the jackhammer series you could run a JH600, it would give you 600 (RMS), or 10.21 Gigawatts if your talking the absolutely non related peak power numbers.
To find a matching amplifier, you want to find an amp that can match the (RMS) rating of the subwoofers, which looks to be between 250-500 watts RMS, and they say that the box is wired to provide a 2 ohm impedance to an amplifier that you connect.
So you are looking for an amp that can put out 250-500 Watts RMS @ 2ohm's. A mono amp would be your best choice in my opinion since they will have a subsonic filter to block the frequencies below the tuning frequency of the box. Thats probably over your head at this moment, but if you want your stereo to sound good and actually understand what your looking for so you spend your hard earned money wisely, I would suggest doing some research into the electrical theory's and terms surrounding car audio, heres an excellent start.    www.bcae1.com , almost every question you may have will be answered on the right hand column.

I would also like to add, if you don't have the time or patience currently to educate yourself on audio enough to tackle this yourself, I would definately suggest going to your independant audio shops and ask for their suggestions and see if they can find something to meet your budget and match the subwoofers. I suggest straying away from Circuit City/Best Buy and such places like that as, honestly, you probably have more knowledge than the people that work there...

i would but all the audio shops here are rip offs. charging way more for subs and amps and decks.
i know a decent ammount about car audio but just not the amp part. i installed my subs and all my stuff by myself and everything but i just dont like the sound i get from my jensen 840. i will look into a mono amp. do you think i will get a deeper and better quality bass with a 250 or a 500 rms mono amp? thanks

Pretty much anything is better than Jensen, report back when you think you have narrowed it down and we can give an opinion if you want.
