I'd rather have a 100w pdx alpine amp for that sub, but for the price its a pretty good deal.

I wouldn't use that amp on a Type X. You will be disappointed with the results. It's simply not enough power. You need *two* 1kW amps for that woofer, GUARANTEED. The PDX 1.1000 makes 1kW into 2 or 4 ohms, so a pair of those - one to each voice coil - is about perfect.
Good sounding woofers, and that's a decent amplifier, but the Type X REALLY wants significantly more power than that.
Heard a single 10" X in an Alpine spec'd slot load box with one PDX 1.1000 on it, and while impressive, it was obvious that even a single 10" needed more power.
It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

thanks for the informative post. The cheapest I can find the PDX 1.1000 for is 400$+ and right now I am not looking to spend that much on an amp since I am just a low income student. I'e been using a 400 watt RMS amp on a pioneer sub, so I think a 1000 watt RMS will be significantly better than what I have been using. I am not trying to achieve SPL, and I dont even blast my music, I just enjoy the definition bass encompasses.
So do you think that amp I chose would be able to drive the type x decently (not for spl but for sq)?

The Amp you picked will drive it but the PDX will a twice as good for spl and sq! I would just wait a little longer, the patience will be worth it!

hey do you think i could use my old blaupunkt 400watt RMS amp on one coil and the mrp-m1000 amp on the other coil? do you think this would be better than just the mrp-m1000 amp by itself? the pdx is out of the picture right now.. ehh
so basically, will two different power amps(blaupunkt 400 RMS+ mrp-m100, 1000 RMS) on each coil be louder than one (mrp-m1000, 1000 RMS) amp? or will this hurt the sub?

no you dont want different amps on different voice coils. Maybe if it was the same exact amp and they were tuned to put out the exact same power in phase you could.

Hey,

I have a 12" Type X that I have been running on an Alpine MRD M-1005 for almost a year now. Its in a 2.2ft ported box tuned to 32hz. The thing POUNDS hard and sounds killer. I purchased the combo for around $700 online about a year ago. Should be cheaper than that now but its an awesome combo and I would highly recommend it.

The thing with the X 12.....I had it in a 1.3 sealed box on the samp amp and everything but it sounded weak. Great SQ but terrible SPL output. Switched to a bigger ported (the one its in now) and have zero complaints. I had 2 10" type r's before this with 500watts to each and this thing outdrives them no questions asked.

thats a very good deal, type r's retail at $220 brand new. so theres a lot of money saved right there. and i run a 12" type r, and it hits hard enough for me.  what kind of box are you putting it in?
