hey do you think i could use my old blaupunkt 400watt RMS amp on one coil and the mrp-m1000 amp on the other coil? do you think this would be better than just the mrp-m1000 amp by itself? the pdx is out of the picture right now.. ehh
so basically, will two different power amps(blaupunkt 400 RMS+ mrp-m100, 1000 RMS) on each coil be louder than one (mrp-m1000, 1000 RMS) amp? or will this hurt the sub?
It will hurt nothing to do what you are suggesting, but it won't get you very much, at all. To double the power will get you 3dB, so to add only 400 watts will gain you about 1dB... Hardly worth the effort at all. CERTAINLY an effort you would never hear.

no you dont want different amps on different voice coils. Maybe if it was the same exact amp and they were tuned to put out the exact same power in phase you could.
Why do you think this? Your thinking is flawed. If they were two completely different amplifiers, with completely different power outputs and completely different overall specifications, wired completely out of phase, NO damage will come to the woofer whatsoever, as long as the total power rating of the woofer is not exceeded. While the results may be less than optimal, it is perfectly safe (as I said, as long as the power rating of the woofer is not exceeded) to do what he is suggesting.
A bit long, but VERY informative, you should read the "Running one 4 ohm voice coil on a DVC Sub" thread. I know it starts with a thread title that doesn't SEEM to have any regard to what we are discussing here, but within the thread there is info directly relating.
It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."
