I thought fusable links were long gone also...

My son's alternator quit working on his '04 GMC Canyon, bad batteries, amps, subs, etc.  After replacing it, and further troubleshooting, we found the in-line fusable link blown in the wiring harness beside the battery.

wow, im amazed. for one, why any auto maker would still use that crap is beyond me. no wonder they ( the "big" 3) are destined for failure. you wont see stupid stuff like that on Asian cars. ((thank god) that is if there is one can't find a fuse '05 f250 - Page 2 -- posted image.)

i had a customer with a 06 econoline van that tried to put his own alarm on and blew his fusable link i never looked at his van but after we talked about it i got him together with a local ford dealer i have a good relationship with and they trouble shot it over the phone and ended up being the fusable link come to think about it im pretty sure it was near the starter. but dont hold me to that.
Look for one of these under the hood, near the battery or altenator: http://parts.leftlanenews.com/auto-parts/ford/engine-electrical-fusible-link
I'm going to agree with this one.  I've done the same thing before on an Explorer.  Tapped my soldering pen to that metal bar that you can't remove from under the steering column.  You can get the fuse from Autozone.  I would meter it if I were you also.  If I remember correctly, I believe it was pink in color.

IIRC GM trucks still use a big stupid fusible link for the battery-to-alternator connection. However it's at least accessable now, unlike the stupid older style links which blew at the starter, in the least accessible part of the engine compartment.
It was pretty amazing how long it took them to figure out that they could mount their relays and fuses in just one location.
Anyway as far as the F250 in question here, I'm going to go with it probably being one of the maxi fuses/fusible links under the hood. Either that or the ign. switch sustained internal damage.

I had the ignition switch plug disconnected when I sparked it so the IGN switch should not be involved.

Apparently, there are two fusable links near the battery positive terminal feeding the Central Junction Box, which feeds the two switch wires.  Somewhere in that loop I have an open circuit.

TBD...

ok if the fuse is good is there power there at the fuse ? all my diagram shows is a bus bar mounted inside the CJB that has 12 volts at all times feeding fuses F2.110 (yellow wires) F2.116 (Dark Blue/Orange wire) and F2.103 Light GREEN/ Violet all get power from the same source The CJB
Hope this helps

I hope it's not a bus bar. Otherwise the whole box will have to be replaced.

Got it guys...

Well, you can't always look at the "fusable link" type fuses and absolutely tell if they are blown.  After pulling the specific fuse and checking with a meter it was bad, could not tell by appearance.

All is well now.  Thanks for all the help.
