I've got here a 2002 Focus ZX3 WITHOUT factory power door locks.  I would like to get power locks installed along with a keyless entry/alarm system.  The problem is the locks...  The locking mechanism runs on a cable that looks alot like the cable used in a bicycle brake cable.  The cable snakes from about midway in the door to the rear where it's attached to the actual lock.  Is there any way to use an aftermarket actuator?  In not, how is it possible to wire up a factory actuator?  Help from any of you guys who know how to do this stuff would be REALLY appreciated.  And please, if you need any more info, or even pictured for that matter, I'd be happy to oblige.

I have never encountered this type of installation, but it sounds like you will need to get creative.  Does the cable actually move when locking and unlocking the doors?  or does it appear like there is something in the cable that controls the door locks?

If the cable actually moves, then you may be able to use the metal rods that come with the aftermarket actuator.  If not, you could likely peel back the insulation that protects the cable to see exactly what's inside.

A pic would be helpful, let me know if you have one.

In a situation like this, I look to drill a small hole in one of the levers on the door lock mechanism and use this to attach my rod from my door motor.

Never done a Focus though...

I think I have it figured out.  I'll see if I can get it working and let you guys in on some pics.  Thanks for your assistance.
