remote start

i'm about to attempt a car starter in my truck. i have reviewed the wiring diagrams and such, but i have sort of a silly question. are all the wires i need going to be found in the steering colum? if not, is color codes the only way to make sure i have the correct wires?

No, they won't all be at the steering column.  You can NOT go by color alone - you use color as a reference and you verify with a volt meter.  I've seen many things damaged by people going strictly by color - it turns out every manufacturer uses multiple wires of the same color.

For a typical remote start a lot of the wires will be at the steering column, then some will be in the drivers kick, and then a few more under the hood.  Since you didn't list what car you have it will be absolutely 100% impossible for anyone to give you any detailed information about your specific install.

ok, thanks for the reply. i have a 95 nissan hardbody, v6, 4x4.  the remote starter/security set up is an Artic Start. There are 3 numbers on the box as to the model number. it's one of the following

RT-1WAM-AS

M2D04-3.

so i just read over the installation manual and i think i'll tackle it one step at a time. i think i'll start by wiring up the remote start by itself. here is what i'm looking at:

is it safe to assume that i'll only be using CN1 and the CN2 plugs, just to be able to get it to start?

any help would be great! this will be my first starter install
