Hi all

I have a 1998 chevy cavalier z24 with remote keyless entry and I am going to install a viper 5900,  I have just two questions, can I hook into the lock and unlock wires and not use a relay? And the trunk I gather so far I do need a relay just not sure how to hook it up,  I did get a wire diagram from this site and the install guide shows to hook up the red and white wire (viper) to 85 and12v constant to 86 the part I don't understand is in the book they say to hook the switched trunk release wire to 30 and  (+)12v if (+) switched or(-) ground if (-) to 87 is this right? And if so how do I hook it up; do I cut the trunk wire and connect it 30 and the other side of the trunk wire to 87? the trunk wire is + according the the diagram.

Thanks!!

Yes. That vehicle with K/E is already relay driven. It is a +12v activation circuit.

POWER LOCK LIGHT BLUE (Type A) IN EITHER KICK PANEL
POWER UNLOCK WHITE (Type A) IN EITHER KICK PANEL

  • Cut the wire between the switch and solenoid. Preferably a few inches after the switch.
  • The switch side of the wire connects to terminal #87a
  • The solenoid side of the wire connects to #30.
  • Terminal #86 and #87 go to a fused 12v source. This can be obtained from the other side of the switch.
  • Terminal #85 connects to the Viper 5900's RED / WHITE wire.

This does not take into consideration using a relay, with coil diode-isolation. You will need to face the band away from the RED / WHITE wire. You will also need a PassLock type by-pass.

I would charge ~$50 above, for parts and labor, not including the by-pass.

Sorry to sound so dumb,  so i can just splice into the door lock wires?  and as far as the trunk i dont have a switch in the car to pop the trunk just  the stock key fob remote so does that mean i have to run a wire's to the trunk? and why do i need to power up two #86 and #87?

Thanks!!

Regarding my previous post on colors? Yes.

TRUNK RELEASE BLACK/ WHITE (+)@ FACTORY KEYLESS ENTRY MODULE

No. The above information explains.

They provide power for the coil and the solenoid.

To revise:

  • Cut the wire between the K/E module and solenoid.
  • The K/E side of the wire connects to terminal #87a
  • The solenoid side of the wire connects to #30.
  • Terminal #86 and #87 go to a fused(~5-7.5 amps) +12v source.
  • Terminal #85 connects to the Viper 5900's RED / WHITE wire.
  • If you decide to splice instead of cut, insulate #87a.

You must still take into consideration, if using a relay, with coil diode-isolation.

Cant you just splice #30 into the trunks (+) wire and not hook up #87A that way you wouldnt have to cut the trunk wire and you could

still use your factory key fob trunk release?

Thanks

IMO, isolating the circuit is a more professional approach, but either way the factory key FOB will still work.

a bit of a pick to get at.
