On my alternator, the power cable runs from the alt to the starter then to the battery. There is no wire that goes directly to the battery.
When I do my big 3, do I upgrade that cable to 1/0 or can I run another cable that goes directly to the battery instead?

what a waste of a post.
I have searched google, this is the reason I have this here asking if I can just add a wire from my alt to my battery or if i have to upgrade the whole wire going to my starter.
did you even read what I posted or just the title and immediately jumped in here assuming i'm a n00b asking how to do the upgrade or what it is?

I didn't mean to come of so angrily, but your reply seemed kind of cooky.
I haven't come up with any conclusive results as to weather or not it will cause problems if I add a 1/0 wire going directly to my battery, or if I need to go to my starter before my battery.

Where are you pulling power from.. the battery or the starter terminal? What else is connected to the starter terminal? Whey are you doing the big 3 upgrade?

i was just thinking on the sidelines. It really wouldnt matter if u went straight to the pos on the batt from the charge stud. The only other place it would go to is a terminal block of some sort. Im not an expert but maybe it will help? good luck

I dont think anything else is connected to the starter, and I'm doing the Big 3 because its a recommended upgrade when installing a stereo system pushing 1000W (1000W if I get 4ohm subs, only 500W now)
Not to mention I'll be installing a 240A alternator once it arrives here.

Definition: the "Big Three" upgrade means improving the current capacity of three cables: 1) alternator positive to battery positive, 2) battery negative to chassis, and 3) engine ground to chassis.  Some people replace the factory wiring; others add additional cable to the oem wiring.

think about it, at some point there has to be a wire from alternator to battery, otherwise there would be no recharge process,
