The 18 Volt charging system was courtesy of a failed voltage regulator.

oh... i thought you were just pushing the limits of that battery. you need to get a missing link audio module. I just found out about them and they are they $#!% when it comes to voltage. makes 14 volt batterys charge at around 15.3 volts and sit at about 14.3
