Are they still any good? The local shop has stopped caring the Eclipse line since they are now at the big box store, they thought the quality has gone down. Any truth to that?

We brought them in for one year and we had about a 40 % failure rate. IMO, that's crap. We don't have them in our shop anymore.

I had the CD3200 and was very happy with it. It had great sound quality and I don't have any complaints. My buddy had the CD3100 and was equally happy with it.
When I worked at circuit city I did notice some of their decks had some issues. Mostly problems with them reading discs. That was just with the floor models we had and that was a few years back.

Well it looks as thought they are not the deck they once were. I still have mine from 15 years ago! Still sounds good!
Dose anyone make a deck that is even close to what Eclipse used to make?
Its sad to see such great decks going to crap or not around any more like Nakamichi.

Now you have me worried. I have had a 7200mkII sitting around for about 9 months that I am finally ready to put in my car.
What brand of decks do you like?

personally, i think eclipse sold out on quality to make some lines cheaper and more appealing so that circuit city would carry them. i installed them for a little more than a year and from my experience all but the most expensive equipment from eclipse is crap now. although i do like their DDIN navigation units.

The units that I had the main problems with were the 3100 and the CD2000 units ( more the 3100 ). I had one customer bring his 3100 back to me 3 times and by the third time, I just apologized and upgraded him to a Pioneer unit we had at the time ( no longer doing Pioneer either eclipse head units -- posted image. ) I have nothing against Eclipse, they have very nice sounding HU's and the decks themselves are easy on the eyes. The features could be more better on the lower end model, but it's not a big deal. The big deal with me is the warranty and the fact that we had to use it and it cost me money to have it sent back and forth to get the deck repaired. All in all, I guess I had a bad experience with Eclipse and we now have Clarion and for us, it's been great. We've sold and installed 70+ head units and only one video units has been sent in for warranty ( but it was the customer's fault, he dropped the deck while he was installing it ) and the screen didn't turn on after that eclipse head units -- posted image..

I know some people don't like the Clarion's new face plates, but I have no problems with the decks and the margins are good + they have everything you want as far as features for the price.

Do you have a budget in mind ? Also, did you want video as well or just CD/MP3/iPod control/AUX in ?
