i have 2 10" type r's amd i'm running them both off 1500w, there 500rms a piece and peak at 1500 a piece. So i'm only going over 250w per sub. But the subs get hot, maybe my gains were too high.
But basically all i'm asking is it okay to go 250w over the RMS(500w) on a sub that peaks at 1500?
Thanks
Mike

.... So you are saying that you got 750W RMS going to each woofer?
They are rated at 500W because that is the maximum safest wattage the woofer can dissipate heat. You are clearly voiding the warranty on your woofers by over driving them. They can handle the extra 250W RMS but only for a very small period of time.
Read the section on setting your gains on this site.

The Type R's are underrated.
If you feed them clean power the 10's can take 1000 watts rms.
I used to feed my Type R 12 1500 watts rms and it took it like my bich.

What do you mean by clean power? what would be considered dirty power? not trying to be funny just dont understand what you are saying. also if the type r are rated 500rms and 1500max how would running 750watts hurt the speakers? I was under the impression that you could push up to 1500watts and be good. and would what you are saying apply to all speakers? last question how much of a difference would it make from 500 to 750?

If the trunk dont rattle then its not loud.
If it's to loud then you're to old.

I think what he meant by "clean power" is that signal is clear and undistorted. Why u would want to play a distorted signal (dirty I guess) anyhow?

RMS is the max watts you can give to the speaker safely. That is what is recommended by the people who built them. I never pay attention to max anything. In speakers or amps. Its just misleading. Like the other guy said, u might be able to give them that much power...but for how long?

its ok to give them more than the rms power as long as the gains on your amp are not too high. Type R's are well built subs.

Lasted as long as I wanted...Played 10Hz tones at full blast in a 33Hz T-line and it smoked a little...I mean just a little. Still killed my ears.
Clean power as in clean unclipped power.

What should my "EQ Q" and "EQ Freq." ranges: Q=.5-4.0 Freq.30Hz-80Hz,
hi pass should be down all the way and lo pass should be around 80 for my subs i think
And i have this Input Sensitivity switch, and its 1x10(1v-10v)i'm assuming, so when you press it it's obviously way louder but i've never had it on, it's loud enough as it is. So since it's not on it makes me think i'm not really pushing 1500watts because i know for a fact if that's turned on it sends more power, watts.
This next part is directly off my amp box,
Power output: 1,500 watts RMS x 1 Bridged at 2 ohms and <1% THD+N
i don't know what that last part is.
Thanks for any help!
