A customer brought me a 2003 Jag S Type with the Alpine audio system. It has an amp and CD Changer. The problem is that the radio turns on and the display is showing, but the changer does not work and there is no sound. The fuses are all good. Dealer told her that the entire system will need replaced ($3000.00). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you press the eject button on the changer, does it eject the magazine?   Ask the customer if the car had a dead battery and was jumped off right before this happened.

CD changer will not eject the magazine. The owner isn't sure whether or not it has ever been jump started (the battery is disconnected every fall when it is stored for the winter).

The changer only needs ground and constant power in order for it to eject the magazine.   Some of the changers get power through the din cable that runs to the radio.  Others I think get power from the amplifiers power wire.  If youi can easily get to the changer, check and see if it has a din cable along with a second plug that may contain the power wire.

it most likely is an Alpine M bus Changer like a CDM something or other, if it has the old school DIN type plug you should have a small reset pin hole next to the eject button.  Is it that the deck does not recognize the changer or what exactly is the changer doing while the Jag is started?
