2003 Mastercraft Prostar

Has anybody here ever put a system in a boat? I'm going to be installing a system in my boss's 2003 Mastercraft Prostar and I'm having trouble figuring out exactly where to put the sub box and the amps. He's using all Clarion Marine equipment. Anybody have any ideas?Sean Cawby

well, i have put alarms on bass boats. what i did was put the main unit up under the drving console. if you have enough room, i would start there. just make sure you your amp wont over heat up there. it should keep most of the water out. youmay have a prob with moisture build up. not sure what you can do about that. post some pics when you get done........Good Luck

Well our idea basically consists of placing the enclosure in the storage bin under the head unit. That's where the battery and all the RCA's are, so I figured it would be a good place. The sub will actually be firing down the side where there's an opening into the cabin area. I hope you understand what I'm talking about. The amps will more than likely be mounted in there also up off the floor, because it does get wet there. As far as the box goes, it'll be made of .75in MDF with a fiberglass finish just for waterproofing. It won't be anything fancy, but very functional. Sean Cawby

Living in Arizona, I have done a ton of boats. If there is room either under the driver's area is a good place for amps or on the passengers "underdash". As for boxes, I have done plenty under the rear seating area, front seating area, and under the "dash". Just make sure he knows that stereo equipment is not water friendly and there is nothing you can do about that(being the shop owner I am sure he knows that). Just a tip: make sure you or he knows where the gas tank is because it is sometimes hard to locate and expensive to replace(not that I know from personal experience).Certified Security Specialist

auex, do you happen to have any pictures of any installs? I can't put anything under the back seat because that's where the fatsac goes for wakeboarding. He also would rather it not be in the driver's kick area. So I'm kind of stuck putting it under the "dash" on the passenger side. I've already built the box, now I just need to cut the pieces of MDF that will actually make the box look flush to the side of the storage compartment. With those extensions off the box to the wall of the storage area, I'll have enough room to mount the amps on the box. I'll probably take some pictures if you're interested. I'd still like to see what you've done with some of your installs though. Forgive me, but it's 8 in the morning, and I'm still tired.... but benjammin, why fuse the ground?Sean Cawby

because unlike a car which shares a ground thoughout all the metal in the car,  a baot is all fiberglass and is not gounded.  now if your ground wire gets wet or comes loose and touches a speaker wire, or the chasis of you radio, or anyother connection i could start a fire just as an unfused lead wire would.  just be safe and fuse the ground!

Don't know why you would need to fuse the ground if everything else is properly fused. Sorry no pics, at least not anymore. What you are doing sounds like a plan and should work out good.Certified Security Specialist

Well we kind of had a change of plans... instead of a nice custom install, bossman decided to use some old stuff we had in the store. We ended up using an old Stealthbox for a Denali, which we pretty much shoved into place, then bolted down, then built an amp rack that we fastened on top of the stealth box. It ended up not looking too bad, but I really would've liked to done what we first discussed. We just grounded to the battery and surprisingly no noise. I'm pretty happy.Sean Cawby
