can someone tell me the best location in the front to find a hook up for the back-up wire?

Read the post about the VW 2005, it also tells you how to find it. Anyway here goes. Go to the back with ignition and parking brake on, and gear shift in reverse.  Check which wire to lens cluster goes live then shuts down when you go out of reverse, then go to one of the kick panels and find the thickest floor loom, find the same colour wire and check it there.  If this was Japanese, I would say look for a primary clolour green wire.
