remove glue and carpet frizz from box?

Someone asked me to paint their subwoofer box. There was carpet on it, so i began peeling it off and the carpet left residue where it was glued down. Some glue but mostly carpet frizz. Any opinions on how you would get that glue but most importantly the carpet frizz off the box?
