what sub to go with?

I had the box built and it sounds good but... My brother has a xxx 12 and it is way better. He is using a us amp that I believe is 1000 rms at 1 ohm. He also had his box built 1/2 cuft larger than spec. Is this a good idea should I do it with the MX? I am also thinking of upgrading from my Fosgate 1000. Any suggestions? I would like to stay around $350 or less as far as Ebay prices go. Thanks!-under_lucky-

The XXX is about twice the sub of an MX, with twice the price tag too. There is a reason it sounds better, it is better. More power would help some for sure, but it will not gain you much output to the ear. It may gain you a hear able difference at lower freqs though and that may be what your wanting. Another huge difference between the 2 could simply be the vehicle they are in.

Did you go with the dual 1ohm or 2ohm MX?

I was cruising the bay earlier and saw a used US Amps Xterminator 400x that would get the job done. Really anything of good quality and put out your 1500rms at 1 or 4ohms. As I said before though, it will not really gain you much or any hear able difference. You may pick up some in the lower freq range and on a mic it would make a difference. In the vehicle you may gain 3db or so.

Ok, you are right the xxx is much better. So, I sold my mx to a friend who gave me a great price with the box almost what I had into it. I also sold my amp. I recently heard a w7 12 that sounded amazing compared to my mx. The guy had it in a Taurus I have an 08 Sebring. He only had the amp and sub nothing done to the inside of the car... I have found a 12w7 for 375. Is there any I can ask a huge favor? Could you draw up one more box for me for the w7 with the same limitaions on dimensions? I really appreciate the help. I was also wondering what amp to go with the w7. I was thinking about the JL 500/1-under_lucky-

Yeah i can do it tonight. The enclosure should be .25 smaller than what you had. I would look at the JL1000/1 if you got the money. That way you can get everything you would ever need out of the sub.

JL 12w7 slot ported 1.75 cu.ft. NET FB=32Hz You will want to mount it to the outside of the double baffle for it to have sufficient mounting depth. Sorry it took me a while to get it done for you. Been pretty busy lately.
