if you have no programmed tach, it wont start. do you have the two way remotes?

if you do, if a failed rs is present. the bottom corner will indicate ER-01.

you can go into programming and try to change it to voltage sense. if the car start, run a tach wire and program it by starting car, hold brakes and press start on the remote.

Just so we know which CM4200 brain module you have...

Does the CM4200 module have the 2 dip switches ( for selecting run time and Volt/Tach mode ) and the Tach learn button on the side with the cut jumper wire ( Auto/Manual ) and the antenna connection?

Hi Kreg,

Yes, I do have CM4200 unit exactly like you described.

I found something. I traced all wires going from iDataLink to Push Start Switch. Accoding to Install Guide, I'm only suppose to have two wires going to switch. One Blue/Red (Ground) and other Blue / YELLOW.

However, I have GREEN/ Red,  Gray/Red & Gray / YELLOW all going to switch. Could this be the cause? I'm still having problem reprogramming the iDatalink. I can erase it, choose Installation mode selection, but can not program it. The unit doew not flash RED or Green while programming.

What do all of these wires do? There is no description for any of these.

Oh, I have a FM Antenna with 1way FM Remotes.

The original unit came with AM Antenna, but I replaced it with FM Antenna and 1way FM remote. They were all compatible.

You probably have an earlier version of the IDatalink firmware on you module.

Try this procedure.

Make sure only one key FOB is present in or near the car.

1   Open Factory key fob.
2   Remove circuit board from key fob.
3   Remove battery from circuit board.
4   Place circuit board in front of push to start button.
5   Push start button twice [2x] to ON position.
6   LED on ADS AL CA will flash GREEN and RED.
7   Wait, LED will turn solid GREEN for 2 seconds.
8   Module Programming Procedure completed.

This procedure uses the Gray/Red, GREEN/ Red and Blue / YELLOW wires from the module to the Push To Start button.

This thing is driving me nuts....Thank you so much again for helping me on this. I truly appreciate it. It seems that my luck is not with me.

I can't get it to go. I tried the steps you listed above, but the LED never seem to turn RED and just keeps flashing green. I waited at least two minutes, but it never changed it's colour. I even retried all steps from doing a factroy reset, selecting the mode (i.e. Data) and reprogramming. The programming step is the only step that gave me inconsistant result.

The funny thing is that when I attempt to start the car with remote starter, the iDatalink LED flashes green, and that's what I'm suppose to see. The car flashes it's head lights and then after few second all head lights (day time running lights) turn on, so I think unit thinks that vehicle is running, but it actually never starts.

When I push the stop button from the remote start remote, it turns off the head lights. Go figure. So, where do you think the problem lies? Within wiring, CM4200 brain or iDataLink?

did you check if you had the correct firmware loaded?

the problem lies in the idatalink. the idatalink is designed to carry out the start sequence.

plug in idatalink press programming button twice (if your in w2w mode)

press and hold programming button. it will stay solid green.

hit the push start button twice, LED on idatalink stays green, push push start button again to turn off.

idatalinks diagnostics indicate if its flashing green when the ignition is not on, there is a fault on the status output. to prevent this, try disconnecting the GWR BLUE/WHITE.  and try programming from the start.  when your done programming, reconnect this wire.

Hi tedmond,

I don't know what firmware is located on my iDataLink module. I don't have the cable to verify or upgrade.

I did as you instructed, but had no result. I'm not sure what you meant by w2w mode. I performed reset, chose the mode and then tried your method, to no avail.

As for the last line when you said to disconnect GWR..not sure what GWR is.

are you running w2w (wire 2 wire) or data?

data is when you use a 4pin connector that has BLACK,RED,BLUE,WHITE.

wire to wire is when you connect a majority of wiresfrom the idatalink to the the rs/alarm unit. such as door trigger, trunk release, lock/unlock, etc.

i will always recomendt w2w. you will only have to disconnect the GWR blue/white from the idatalink if your not using d2d menthod.

I believe you said it was D2D mode.  That means you set the ADS AL CA to one blink after a reset.  Are you removing the IDatalink's harness as per the directions during a reset?  Don't want to add and check lights to the situation.

We really need to find out the firmware and version on your module.  The Compustar 4200 with FM remotes and IDatalink module are top shelf items and worth keeping.  Either going to a Best Buy and asking the tech to check it for you ( carry it in, in your hand ) or buying a cable on EBay.  Just don't update it or change it.  That will necessitate a lot of wiring changes and really complicate things.  With that info a simple call to ADS tech support will get you the install guide number.

Just for grins, try this.  Place the Toyota FOB circuit board without battery next to the Start button and try a remote start.

Also check the CM4200 dip switch to see if you are in Tach mode or Alternator mode.  If you are in Tach mode, start the car normally and after it gets to a normal hot idle, press the Tach learn button on the CM4200.  One parking light flash is good.
