What is an affordable in dash stereo/navigation out there? By affordable I mean less than $400. Don't really need the best of the best. Or if possible a single din with a flipout screen solution?

If you are only worried about navigation and do not neeed DVD or any kind of video, Pioneer makes a double din CD player with Navigation..  It sells for 350 dollars.

Well I wouldnt mind those but nav and ipod integration is the main thing. How are the off-bran ones such as eclipse and jensen?

I would not consider Eclipse to be an OffBrand unit.  But they did just exit the Consumer Car Audio market.  Jensen is owned by Audiovox Corporation.  They will not sell you a part for their equipment.  When it breaks, it has to go back to them for service.  Notice I did not say if it breaks, I said when it breaks.

Don't buy used from e-bay. Majority of them are stolen and you would just be fueling the market. You can buy a new Pioneer AVIC-U310.
It has:
Removable screen
Ipod/USB
Bluetooth phone w/ external MIC
TeleNav Navigation- upgradeable by USB.
All of that inside the box is amazing for the price. $350-$400.
Only downsides I have on the unit are:
Does not speak street names, minus the big streets.
Doesn't have Garmin mapping- Very minor, I just love garmin
Doesn't play DVD's - You shouldn't be watching while driving anyway.

I would wait and watch for a deal on a kenwood unit. They use Garmin and on sale you can get into your price range. Just be patient and keep watching the sales boards for on-line site ads.
Kenwood DNX5140
or find a deal on the DDX514/DDX512 and add-on the garmin nav unit at a later date.
I did this with a DDX514. Installed it and picked up the garmin nav unit on sale for $99 down the road. Total cost ended up being around $425 and they work great.

take a look on amazon. I got an email about a month ago about some of their pioneer double din units for right around the 400 range. Im not really a pionner fan, but that seems to fall right in your budget. I think they had the new avic f series posted
