hmmm....Now what can it be ? You had tach signal but could be NOT properly set. The take over test proved it. May be change the cylinder setting higher or lower. At the moment it could be over cranked. I m not sure which way it should go. only way to find out is to try I guess.

I guess that's where the other problem comes in. When I went through the 9 step programming, nothing changes. I tried the 8 cyl and the low setting. I did notice that it will accept settings up to 11 steps. Are there instructions for a 11 step unit?

are you sure this is 270ic ?   It could be a 290ic ( it comes with a two button remote)

use this for reference the last 4 steps are for cylinder selection

The unit looks like the picture on the 310 wiring instructions.

I tried the ones you linked, I tried the 310, and the 290. None seem to make any difference.

thats what i love about DEI units... start car, press a button, LED comes on, Tach learned, DONE!

can you program the unit to voltage sense just to try and eliminate a tach issue (sure sounds like a tach issue)
