I have a 2001 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab with a Viper Model 125HF Alarm, starter, door lock control. Neither of the original remotes are working, so I have got a replacement transmitter from "Directed Install Essentials". The instructions to program seem basic, but I can't find the "program switch" to get started. Is this different than the on/off toggle that stops the starter from working? I assume that it is. This seems like it should be easy, can anyone please help me get started?

Find the Viper control unit.  It is a small box probably under the drivers dash somewhere.  On one side there is a small blue 2 pin connector where the Program switch should be plugged into.  You use the program switch to program the new remote FOB.  The Viper 125HF install guide is in the downloads section of this site.  https://www.the12volt.com/installbay/file.asp?ID=406  Follow the instructions starting on page 12.
Soldering is fun!

Thanks. I've found the blue 2 pin connector, but it seems as though the program switch is no longer installed. Is this something that I can purchase somewhere? I'm guessing that the installer of this used the switch and then removed it so it didn't have to be mounted. Hopefully this isn't rare.

You dont need a special switch,  any momentary pushbutton switch that will plug into that port  there will work.   Many alarm shops should have alot laying around, try asking for one or to buy one cheap.

I've got the push button working, but I think that the system is locked. To program: I have the door open, the key is on, I've hit the valet button the called for 8 times. On the ninth press of the button (held in), the system chirps once. I've called Directed, and they tell me that this system is probably locked. Is it possible for me to unlock this system to program the remote? An error I made previously was the model of alarm. It is a Hornet 553T.

Try the same door open, key on procedure, but try only pressing the button 7 times then press and hold.

Or just try pressing 1 time, then press and hold.

That old 553 dont use 8 I dont think.   Go to Directed.com and under Support/Guides find an installation manual for that 553.  It's all in there.

I agree with Mark! Although with viper from dei, if you attempt to cross the programming limit the siren chirps once as soon as you cross the limit! Is the chirp that you're hearing longer than a normal confirmation chirp?

It was position 7 or 8 for the "auto-Learn" feature a while ago.  Probably when that 553T was around.  On the newer systems it is position 1.   It's changed a little bit over the years.

I assume you're fairly new to installing dei products!
