i recently put in a a 7 inch touch screen dvd/radio player in my 06 ford f150 and when i turn the volume up halfway or a little more the sounds gets distorted. would installing better speakers in my truck help solve the problem or would i have to replace the speaker wire and speakers?

curious, what Brand and model head unit did you get?

Reason I ask is because alot of these discounted dvd/tv combos dont have great sound quality or decent output. therefore crap in = crap out.

replace your 6x8 speakers with decent brand name speakers like Pioneer, JVC, or Clarions

add a small 4ch amp with high pass crossovers. As long as you stay around 50 watts RMS per channel it is ok to use your factory speaker wire. set x overs at 125Hz high pass

down the road get one 10" sub under or behind the seat with a small sub amp and you will have a cool little system

most likely it is a lack of power issue from the headunit.  you could change the speakers and still have an issue.  upgrade to a 4ch amp and some decent aftermarket speakers.
