the alarm I'm installing uses negative pulse. My car uses posititve pulse. So I need a relay. Right? How many do i need? Do i need one for my trunk also (it is positive)?

You will need to wire up two relays like this :

  • 86 & 87 : Constant 12 volts
  • 85 : ( - ) Alarm door lock or unlock  wire ( or your trunk trigger wire form alarm )
  • 30 : ( + ) output to door lock/ unlock ( or your trunk release wire )

Yeah, what Jeff said.  One relay for each function.  So you'll need three relays.  The ones from DEI clip together, or you can lay three separate ones side-by-side and tape them together---it's easier and neater to intall them as one relay bank.

I'm surpised that your alarm doesn't have outputs that do both negative and positive; it's a common feature these days.

so for each of the 3 relays i will have constant 12 going to 86 and 87? Then the lock, unlock, and trunk wire will come into the 85 from the alarm? Then the wire will come out of the 30 to the lock, unlock, and trunk?

You bet !! All right on all three of the above. You need (3) relays to do each individual wire.

Are you using a SPDT relay rated at 30/40 amps ? Where are you grabbing the constant power from for the relays and also is the target wires the proper wires that you verified with a DMM ?

A SPDT relay at 30/40 amps?

not sure. I bought the relays at radio shack for 6 bucks each. it has four outputs (85,86,87,30)

Where am i grabbing power?

coming from the '87' of both relays, i have them tied directly to a 12 volt source near the battery. I know it is good and hot because it is the same source i use for my audio system (amp power source). Also i assume the red wire coming from the alarm is a 12v source. In my instructions that came with my alarm, it says to tie this red wire into '86' on both of the relays.

Are the wires the proper wires i verified with a DMM?

I don't know what a DMM is. However, i do believe they are the right wires. It seems they are tied into some kind of factory relay.  In another post awile back, i told you it had 6 wires: light blue, grey, thick black, ORANGE / black, tan, and thin black. You then told me: "This black box is your door lock relay module for the GMC. The wires you are looking for are in this module. I posted the wire colors of this truck in a previous post and because you have factory keyless entry, your GMC requires a (+) pulse activation and this will locl/unlock the doors. The wires are all there and if you test the wires for circuit verification, you will find which wires you will need.".........So i did test them. This is what i found. The light blue and the grey show +12v when the lock button is pushed. The thick black shows nothing (assuming ground). The ORANGE / black is constant +12v. And the tan and the thin black wires show +12v when unlock is pushed. These are the right wires right? Does it matter which lock or unlock wire i tie into? I am tied into the lt blue and the tan right now, and nothing works. What should i try?
