I have recently purchased a 99 Tahoe, which to me was the biggest car purchase of my life.  I have installed 3 prior alarms in other cars, but not into such a nice car.  After finding the wire guidelines here, I think I can now attempt the install myself, but I have a couple of questions...

Are my door locks of the Negative output type?

My car does not have an alarm, just keyless entry, do I need an Alarm Bypass Module ($25.00)?

I am considering the Commando RS-Combo, which I can get for about $100.  Is this alarm ok?  I last had an Ungo, and thought it was alright, so I am not big on name brands if the features and word of mouth are good.

Thanks all,  I am very glad I found this site, as the information and people are all excellent.

Hi Steve, your door locks are a 3 wire positive and you can catch them at the relays above the gas pedal. Yes, you will need to bypass the VATS if you install a remote start. I've never used any Commando products so I can't give you an opinion either way. Here's the rest of what I have for a '99 Tahoe: https://www.the12volt.com/installbay/detail.asp?info=alarm&year=1999&make=Chevrolet&model=Tahoe&ID=17477&type=Alarm

Thanks for the info.  The Commandos brain outputs a negative door lock voltage (if Im saying that right) so should I also order the negative to positive converter?  Or is there another way to convert the negative signal to work with my positive system?

Again, thanks for your time and knowledge.  This infomation is hopefully going to save me a bunch of money, plus I get the 'fun' of doing it myself :-)  Im just trying to get all my ducks in a row, so I can order all the parts at the same time.

Hi Steve, you're welcome.  Instead of purchasing another module to control your door locks, just use two relays on the negative door lock outputs from your alarm. https://www.the12volt.com/doorlocks/page3.asp#3wp

I've ordered the alarm as well as the relays, but they were out of the Alarm Bypass Module.  Ive noted that there may be a way to disable the factory keyless entry with just the use of some various resisters.  Is this so?  Would anyone have the resistance values and applicable wires for a 1999 Tahoe/Suburban/Yukon?  (1996-1998 might also work)

Also, what does VATS stand for?

Thanks,

Steve

Why would you want to disable the OEM keyless entry unit ? Any way, the 1999 Chevy Tahoe has a Passlock II system that you need to bypass. I would suggest using a learnable bypass module for ease of installation and trouble free usage.

Thanks Jeff.  I was under the impresion that the OEM keyless was the same thing as the Passlock II system.  I guess they are totally different.  I was able to find locally a bypass module, so I have taken care of that problem.

I also orderd one of the 2 zone microwave sensor things, sounds cool, hopefully it will work as advertised.
