Ungo is no longer made by Clarion, they are produced by DEI for sale by Clarion. They are not bitwriter compatible. They have to be programmed manually using the valet/program switch. I'm not sure why the installer didn't program the unit manually originally but thats the only way I know of to program the features.
He said he could not access the programming manually, and that it must be locked, which was the reason we waited and he was trying to use the bitwriter on it..
I don't know if I'm allowed to post links, but on ebay there is one result for "Ungo Bitwriter". Do you happen to know if that is a different unit then a Viper/DEI/Whatever bitwriter, and if it is compatible with my unit?
My instructions refer to it being able to be programmed by a "Ungo Prosecurity Programmer", but my internet searches do not come up with any such device, it does have the 4 pin red port on it labeled as a "D2D Programmer interface". Which programmer would I use to program it through this?
On page 29 of my installation guide at the very bottom it says "The proSecurity programmer requires software v2.6. Prosecurity programmers with date code of 6A or older require an IC upgrade (p/n 998M). Some prosecurity programmers with a date code of 6B do not require the IC up-grade." Would the fact that his bitwriter is now a v2.7 be the reason it won't communicate?

The item on ebay is no different than any other DEI bitwriter. If programming is locked on the unit the only way to tell is from the bitwriter. If the bitwriter cannot read the unit, an older chip won't make any difference. I have issues every once in a while with programming using a bitwriter and if I hit "read" and it gives me an error, I keep trying it a few more times and it eventually works. Not sure if it's the remote starts or my bitwriter (bitwriter age = 8yrs.). If it still doesnt work for you, try plugging the brain in from the other unit and see if it will let you program it. If it does the 1st unit is bad. If not, have the installer triple check his manual programming sequence to make sure he is doing it correctly. You also can only program DEI stuff, manually or with the bitwriter, when the system is in unlock status.

Also if relevant, with European Viper product, you had to have the vehicle's ignition switched on. Thanks DEI for telling us at the time (NOT).

I wondered if the original installer REALLY tied hard enough to program it. I originally found the Vipers a PITA after working with G series Cliffords.
