I had an AVH-P6400CD installed in my Montero a few days ago, however, I decided to upgrade to the P6500DVD w/ touch screen.  I should be getting the unit delivered next week. Directly attached to the head unit via the IP-bus cables is the GEX-P6400 tv tuner, CD-VS33 video switcher, AVIC-90 nav, and the GEX-P900XM xm unit.

My question is: Will the P6500DVD be a direct swap out with the 6400CD? Is the wiring harness the same? Judging by the input options I've read about, these two units are pretty much the same as far as the connections in the back of the unit.

Thanks in advance,    Jeff

By the way, if anyone wants a 3 day old AVH-P6400CD, pm me with an offer. Keep in mind, If the 6500dvd is a direct swap out, I will have new cables to go along with the 6400cd + factory box and manuals.

The wiring harness is identical, the rca harness is not. 6400CD doesnt not have a brain the 6500DVD does. I picked up the 6500DVD two weeks ago and it blows my 6400CD away! Boy im glad i upgraded huge difference.

Thanks for the reply.

In other words, in response to your post, what can I expect as far as needing extra hardware or additional cables? Do I need to pick up the P7000 processor as well in order to feed my amps? or are you just stating the rca harness is different. Pardon me if these are dumb questions... Nope the 6500DVD is complete ready to go to work with your amps, the rca harness connector that goes into the deck is a little smaller thats the only difference. The 6500DVD comes with a brain(its very small only bout 6 inches by 4 inches)

I got mine through Truevalueelectronics on e-bay for $1119.00, but I think they have one or some left at $1149.00  I won the auction prior to the real release of the unit (April 28th) so they ended up shipping it on May 2nd. I got it today (Tuesday, May 6th) installed it and am very impressed with it so far. It integrates with the rest of my Pioneer components perfectly (Avic90DVD, Gex6400 tv tuner, VS33 switcher, & PS2) The picture is fantastic; the touch screen is very cool; and the sound to my eclipse amps and Focal poly kevlars is as clean as can be!

As far as the 7500, check E-tronics or GOPCplus.

Yes, the 6500 has a built in sub control. No integrated tuner within the unit itself, but the GEX-6400 interfaces via an IP cable seamlessly. As far as the 7500, I'm not too familiar with the specs so I cannot answer either way whether it is worth the wait or not. Nonetheless, I am very happy with the 6500 mainly because of its marriage with the AVIC90 navigation component.
