simple question: i have a friend with a 2006 Hummer H3. we want to install a pioneer head unit but i want to be certain of the wire harness needed for the install. the factory head unit is a single-disc player with mp3 capabilities. no where is the "Bose" logo listed. i'm thinking that this is not a bose unit and that there will not be a factory amplifier in the vehicle. what's an easy way to tell? what harness will i need?

thanks in advance...

i think a wire's loose somewhere...

usually on newer GM vehicles the BOSE logo is on the pillars where the tweeter pods are or on any other speaker grill. i havent noticed it on the radio in years.
if you cant find anything that says bose in the whole car then its not a bose system. either way though if you have onstar then the plug will still be still be just as expensive.

Thanks! We haven't found a bose logo anywhere in the vehicle. Now, he said he could care less about having OnStar and chimes functioning so could we save some money and go with a basic GM harness?

The Hummers don't use a "Bose" system. They have a Monsoon system if they are a premium/amplified system. It would say Monsoon right on the radio. If he doesnt care about chimes and onstar, look into a Metra 70-2003. Probably run about $20. If you do use this type of harness you will have to run the accessory lead to a fused ignition source.

ive never seen a monsoon system outside of a pontiac. Hummers have Bose systems.

I contacted our local stereo shop and was told that the harness was $119. Was also told that not only do the chimes feed through the radio but there were also reports of OBD-II read errors?? I never heard of such a thing. If this is NOT the case, then I am going to go with the 70-2003, if all that's lost is just the chime ringing and OnStar.
Has anyone else heard of any OBD-II errors or the inability to run an automotive scan on the vehicle? I think the guy was just trying to get me to buy. He said they wouldn't do an install on one without the $119 harness as there was "...too much liability."

i dont know about OBDII read errors but i have heard cases of losing certain functions over time, such as locks. have not personally seen it happen though and ive done more than a few with the basic harness.
