2002 F-150 with a ultra start 72 series. I am hooked up to the tach (ignition coil) wire and RS confirms it has a good reading from it.
This problem only happens about 10% of the time.
Go to remote start vehicle it will turn over and crank but then it will not release the starter, you just hear it spinning. it then shuts down and will try again, sometimes it will do the same thing again or it will work like it should and stay running.
Anyone know what is causing this?
I am thinking of changing to a different tach wire...as this might be the problem..
Any other hits?
Thanks!

I know on AVOX products that's a true sign of a tach wire issue...

Ford's can have issues when you use the coil wire. Change to an odd colored injector wire, problem will be resolved.
Installer, IT support, and FFL. I need less hobbies.

A couple of things to try.

Tach re-learn:

1.) First warm up the engine.  Turn off the engine.  Depress brake pedal.  Start engine with key.  Place transmission into reverse.  Press button on antenna once then press and hold button on antenna for 5 seconds.  Parking Lights should flash 2 times for good tach re-learn.

Factory Reset and automatic learn.

2.) First warm up the engine.  Then do a Factory Reset.  Then start the truck and watch the parking lights during the automatic tach learn for a good response.

This info from DEI :

Tach wire: on the 4.2L it is a Dk. Blue/Lt. Green at the coil pack on top of the motor. On the 4.6L go to any of the 8 ignition coils and use the wire that is not RED / Green. On the 5.4L it is a Lt. GREEN / WHITE at the coil on the passenger side of the motor between the fuel injectors.

For best reliability this connection should be soldered.  If you change the tach wire to another source, do a Factory Reset and auto learn.  Ultra Start has a note " use a F.I for best results ".

Soldering is fun!

Thanks guys for the reply's,
All connections are soldered, so that is not a issue.
Going to try and get on this tomorrow. With what was said above, I am going to change the Tach wire over to a fuel injector and get it off of the ignition coil. Will also do a tach reset too.
Will give an update when all is done.
