The RED / black wire is a modulated ground and steady ground in normal operation.
It may work if you use a relay on the RED / black wire to supply the ground instead. You will have to experiment to determine it appropriateness. Wire the relay as follows:
85 = RED / black drl relay side
86 = +12V
30 = RED / black headlight side
87 = chassis ground
87a = no connection
Install a diode across the relay terminals 85 and 86. The cathode (band side) of the diode should be connected to terminal 86 and the anode to 85.
This information is provided only as a reference.
All circuits should be verified with a digital multi-meter prior to making any connections.
