It doesn't sound like a sub being over-driven, and if it was why would the sound go away when I tnsert my arm into the hole (not entirely blocking the port) |

Not that this has anything to do with the chirp, but you could still be over-driving the woofer...just sayin'. ;)
...typically, I just run whatever I randomly pick up off the floor.

is the port totally secure? if not then it could be the actual port vibrating against the wall of the box. which would explain why putting your hand in the port makes it stop.

Did you put your hand on the port when you put your hand in there? I didn't think to ask you that. I still vote for a homemade box, though.

Perhaps it is a power issue ,maybe your sealing the box to a degree when inserting arm and changing power handling of subs...try retuning the setup ..

What? No. This is impossible, and "retuning" means what to you exactly?

a sealed box and a ported/vented box act differently !? subs power handling changes...tuning means gains and or volumes and port tuning ?!...so why impossible
